Supervision across the FAroGels network
Every doctoral candidate is supported by a collaborative team that brings together academic expertise and insight from the non-academic sector. This structure connects day-to-day research guidance with broader scientific, professional and application-oriented perspectives.
Supervision is coordinated across host organisations, PhD-awarding institutions and secondment partners. Regular reviews help each candidate align research progress, training, mobility and career development throughout the project.
How supervision works
FAroGels uses a coordinated supervision model that connects scientific guidance, practical experience, candidate development and quality assurance throughout each doctoral project.
Team-based guidance
Each doctoral project combines primary supervision with academic co-supervision and input from non-academic or industrial specialists. The resulting team brings complementary expertise to research planning and implementation.
Structured progress
Documented meetings and periodic reviews help supervisory teams identify needs at an early stage, monitor achievements and keep research, training and secondments connected to each candidate’s project.
Career development and wellbeing
Personal career planning, progress records and access to confidential support help candidates strengthen their skills, prepare for future careers and raise supervision or wellbeing concerns when necessary.

The FAroGels Supervisory Board connects individual supervision with network-wide oversight. It reviews the alignment of doctoral research, training, mobility and career development, while bringing academic, non-academic and candidate perspectives into relevant programme-level discussions.
